Job Summary

The Clinical Research Coordinator (CRC) will support research on the Changing Health Through Food Support for Diabetes Study (CHEFS DM). CHEFS DM is a four-year clinical trial funded by the National Institutes of Health to test the impact of a food and nutrition education intervention among low-income and/or food-insecure people living with type 2 diabetes in the San Francisco Bay Area.
UCSF is collaborating with the community-based organization Project Open Hand (POH), which has been providing food support to individuals with illnesses who are unable to meet their nutrition needs for 35 years and is a leader in food is medical research and policy initiatives. The CRC will perform independently or with general direction to execute, manage, and coordinate research protocols, as directed by the Principal Investigator (PI), under the guidelines of UCSF and regulating agency policies. The CRC will support the management and coordination of study activities for the CHEFS DM study.
Duties may include, but will not be limited to: supporting and coordinating team efforts in recruitment of study participants, obtaining informed consent, enrollment in POH services, data collection and retention at follow up visits, payment of study incentives; supporting the creation and modification of procedural documentation, data collection instruments and REDCap databases as needed; providing general oversight of and identifying ways to improve study procedures toward improved consistency in data collection and entry, data completeness and data quality in REDCap databases; implementing and maintaining periodic quality control procedures; overseeing laboratory services and managing inputting of lab data into REDCap; supporting managing and maintaining study participant tracking systems and performing queries and analyses in REDCap databases to report on study progress to investigators at regular team meetings; coordinating staff work schedules and assisting with training data collectors; creating and managing investigator protocols in the Human Research Protections Program (HRPP) online system, iRIS and on ClinicalTrials.gov website; helping assure compliance with all relevant regulatory agencies, such as maintaining all regulatory documents and participating in any internal and external audits or reviews of study protocols; and perform other duties as assigned.
The CRC will work in close collaboration with other CHEFS-DM research staff and study investigators and will act as an intermediary between UCSF, POH, community clinics, managed care plans, and laboratory services. The CRC will coordinate regular team meetings and meetings with collaborators, including setting agendas, leading meetings, and sending calendar invites. These activities necessitate excellent communication skills that exhibit sound judgment to maintain patient confidentiality, excellent organization skills, and the ability to balance collaboration with proactivity and independence.

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.
For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Department Description
The Division of HIV, Infectious Diseases, and Global Medicine at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) is an internationally recognized global leader in clinical care, research, and education. The division consists of approximately 36 faculty members, 11 fellows/postdoctoral scholars, and 170 academic and staff employees. Required Qualifications
- Bilingual in Spanish and English; able to conduct interviews with monolingual Spanish speakers
- HS graduation and sufficient experience and demonstrated skills to successfully perform the assigned duties and responsibilities, and/or equivalent experience/training
- Attention to detail; strong interpersonal skills; excellent, effective verbal and written communication skills to coordinate with subjects, team members, other departments, and outside institutions; and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment while working with a diverse subject population
- Ability to work well independently, complete projects in a timely manner, and prioritize multiple projects to ensure the completion of essential tasks by deadlines
Preferred Qualifications
- One year research experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training
- Experience with research dissemination (e.g., authoring, coauthoring or contributing to scientific journal manuscripts, internal reports, and other documents disseminating research results)
- Experience with research focusing on social, structural, and economic drivers of health, particularly in the context of type 2 diabetes and/or other non-communicable chronic diseases
- Ability to effectively problem-solve logistical issues, adjust in real time, proactively identify issues and suggest solutions on how to make projects run more smoothly
- Experience and/or interest in working with medically underserved and vulnerable patient populations
- Fluency in the usage of Human Research Protection Program (HRPP) online system, iRIS system for submission, renewal, and modification of protocols through this system
- Understanding of patient population to create rapport and a relationship, while also giving insight to what is realistic and appropriate for patient participation
- Knowledge of UCSF and departmental policies for dealing with reimbursement, guidelines for research, confidentiality and HIPPA regulations, following the UCSF mission statement and purpose for research, and a clear understanding of policies and procedures on patient safety and confidentiality (electronic and hard copy medical records, patient charts, communication, etc.); knowledge of medical terminology, research policies and guidelines.
- Knowledge of database building/analysis, programming, and data management within some of the following: REDCap, Access, Stata, SASS/ SPSS, and Teleform programming platforms
